A cracked or collapsed drain doesn't fix itself. Left alone, it undermines the ground around it, lets roots in, and eventually causes subsidence or a backed-up system that affects the whole property. What the Fault Usually Looks Like
Most customers call after a CCTV survey has produced a report. The common findings we deal with:
- Fractures and cracks, often from ground movement or frost heave
- Root ingress that's split the pipe wall over time
- Pipe joints that have opened up and are allowing water ingress or leakage into the soil
- Collapsed sections, typically in older clay or pitch-fibre runs
- Displaced pipes where the ground has shifted beneath them
Some of these are repairable without touching the ground. Others need excavation. We won't tell you one when we mean the other.
Relining: When It Works and When It Won't
Drain relining involves inserting a resin-impregnated liner into the existing pipe and curing it in place. The result is a smooth, continuous pipe within the old one. No trench, no reinstatement, done in a few hours in most cases.
It works well when the pipe has cracks or joint defects but hasn't fully collapsed, the bore is still largely intact and accessible, and the run is long enough that excavation would mean lifting paving, a driveway, or established planting.
It won't work on a fully collapsed section, or where the pipe has deflected so badly the liner can't be pulled through. We'll tell you which applies before any work starts.
When Excavation Is the Right Call
Some damage is too severe for a liner to bridge. A collapsed pitch-fibre run under a garden in Roffey, a displaced clay pipe beneath a driveway in Broadbridge Heath, a section that's sheared rather than cracked. These need the pipe dug out and replaced.
We keep excavations as small as the job allows. Excavated areas are reinstated once the new pipe is bedded in and backfilled correctly.

Drain repairs, relining, and pipe replacement carried out by us carry a written guarantee. The guarantee period we offer on remedial work is 20 years, and it travels with the property if you sell. We'll confirm the exact written terms when we quote the job, so you know precisely what's covered before you commit.
Blockage clearance and descaling aren't covered by this guarantee, which is standard across the industry for clearance work.
